The Sangay National Park is the largest wild area of Ecuador. The territory which forms the reserve extends from the high summits of Altar, Cubillin, Quillimas, Osogochi and Sangay to the humid and subtropical region of the Palora and Upano Rivers. The park covers a surface of 549,000 hectares and covers a large part of three Ecuadorian provinces: Tungurahua, Chimborazo and Morona Santiago.
Most of the reserve is inaccessible and presents a variety of life zones, from 1,000 meters to 5,000 meters, thus containing the most varied community of plants and animals, as well as natural beauty. There are a considerable number of the following animals: pumas, jaguar, deer, dantas, condors, etc. all of whose existence is protected. Within the park are beautiful waterfalls, lakes, rivers and an infinity of geological formations, glaciers, volcanoes, caverns, thermal springs, etc.
